China is promoting innovation in AI science and technology, industrial development, and applications across various sectors, while improving regulatory mechanisms to ensure it maintains a strong hand in development and governance. Ambassador Zheng highlighted four key characteristics of AI development in China today:

  1. Rapid expansion of industrial scale;
  2. A steady stream of innovative outcomes;
  3. Continuous improvement in computing power and data support;
  4. Increasingly evident results in enabling applications.

In 2023, China launched the Global AI Governance Initiative, articulating 11 proposals focused on development, security, and governance. Ambassador Zheng stressed that China and the UK should implement the key consensus reached by their leaders, follow through on strategic dialogues and high-level exchanges in economics, finance, energy, health, and defense, and initiate cooperation in other fields to create a favorable political and policy environment for collaboration in AI and broader technological areas.

During the forum’s interactive segment, Chinese corporate representatives such as Ge Hongde, General Manager of BYD China, and Hong Su, Manager of Alibaba Cloud UK, joined founders and CEOs of British tech firms in a dynamic discussion titled “Empowering Collaboration Through Smart Technology and Informed Decision-Making.”

Nearly 200 participants from across British political, financial, commercial, technological, and educational sectors attended the forum.
